Alberto Cairo teaches visualisation and infographics at the School of Communication at the University of Miami. He’s also the director of the visualisation program at UM’s Center for Computational Science and, since June 2015, he is the Knight Chair in Visual Journalism at the university. Cairo is the author of the books The Functional Art: An Introduction to Information Graphics and Visualization (2012) and The Truthful Art: Data, Charts, and Maps for Communication (2016). He has been a director of infographics at several publications in Spain and Brazil, and has taught and consulted for companies and educational institutions in more than 20 countries. In 2012 he created the first journalism Massive Open Online Course in the world, titled ‘Introduction to Infographics and Data Visualization,’ which has attracted more than 14,000 students from 100 countries in its four editions. He is consultant for companies like Google and Microsoft.
