Project Description
New York’s celebrated and diverse restaurant culture at “the center of the universe” inspired FOODIVERSE, a visualization of food quality and customer experience in all Manhattan restaurants. It integrates data from the NYC Department of Health and Foursquare to show restaurant grades, sanitation violations, Foursquare reviews, ratings, and price tiers.Explore the data from multiple views: a playful distribution of the FOODIVERSE, a map, or a custom graphical view, specified by choosing your own axis variables.
What makes this project innovative?
NYC FOODIVERSE is a data visualization experiment that intended to give the audience an immersive data exploration experience on all the restaurants in Manhattan area from multiple perspectives. Social media food ratings are difficult to parse and generalize, leading me to add quantifiable measures to individually generated qualitative sources, visualizing relationships between the two to provide new insights.
What was the impact of your project? How did you measure it?
Social media food ratings are difficult to parse and generalize, leading me to add quantifiable measures to individually generated qualitative sources, visualizing relationships between the two to provide new insights.Getting around 100 daily users per day in Dec 2017.
